Hmmmm... it seems like their site is just one page announcement of the new CD. Celine, I don;t see links to the other pages where they describe the instruments.

    Some videos:

    Hello again,

Well, the website is down, we have to finish the new one, and we never have time... And we need to translate it too...

About the instruments : Melonious plays a "classical" mandolin quartet (mandolins, alto and mandocello), all instruments created for them by Andre Sakellaridès, luthier à Marseille, in France.
You can see from the video that the mandocello they use is quite big.

In "La Miugrana", they also play other instruments : banjo, guimbri (an african instrument), electric mandolin, tenor mandola, oud, djoura (the smallest saz)... and also some other things (bottleneck, "mandoline préparée", distortion etc.).

And we have no other web outlet till now, as we decided to produce and distribute this CD ourselves, it's a bit difficult...

The Melonious Quartet is great, and I appreciate that their sound is quite unique and seemingly independent of the pervasive post-bluegrass/Dawg/Marshall/Thile influences (not that there's anything wrong with those influences, of course). I particularly enjoyed their recent collaboration with Basque accordionist Kepa Junkera--fabulous record.

I'm ready to buy this CD - FANTASTIC group. But the Website doesn't seem to want me to.

    A couple of suggestions:

Option for English, if you can -
Option for PayPal, if you can

I'd buy a couple of copies today, if it would let me.

Tout est bon, Céline, ma carte de crédit travaille en français ou en anglais. Faites-nous savoir quand vous l'aurez fixé.

To get the website in english, there is a small "FR" at the top of the page, just near the shopping cart icon, you can switch it to english.

And you can pay with paypal after you log in.

And I think the problem with the CD copies is solved now.

Please let me now if you manage to order these copies.

It's also possible to download the album on the "digital" tab...

i'm with you Paul... i first saw Patrick Vaillant perform many years ago in Seattle as part of a world music evening at Meany Hall. It was obvious that his music was beautiful and unique and, as you point out, it was so wonderfully free from the ravages American mandolin cliches. I guess they just hear things differently over there in Europe... thank god! where would we be without Django & Steph!

I spent almost an hour trying to set up an account with 1d-paca.com so I could buy it. I could never make it work. I would have even settled for downloads, but even that didn't work. I cannot imagine why some people make it so hard to buy (or even find) music over the internet.

I'm sure I'll hear it eventually.

    Boo!

    Paul -

Give it another try. It's worth it.

I picked English, set up the account, no problem. Requested the physical CDs (one for me, one as a gift) and received them from overseas in 1 1/2 weeks.

Great music - really enjoy these guys.

No, I just wasted another 25 minutes on it. It rejects something every single time I try to set up an account, none of which breaks its silly overwrought rules for number or type of characters, spaces, etc. I cannot set up an an account, and this seems to be the only vendor on earth to sell this CD.

Well, it would be easier if they could do it via CDBaby or some other outlet.

I'm really a big fan of theirs.

Well, up to now, it is the only vendor on earth.
I am sorry it doesn't work with you, but I can ask them for support...
Can you send me an e-mail explaining the problem, and I will ask.

    Celine -

Give me an email address and I'll send you the info. The PM thing on the Café doesn't work very well—my email (which is always available on the Café and elsewhere) is music@lutherie.net. Let's continue there.
