YEsterday we were jamming outside a pub, when some people came in who had been to a New Orleans Jazz concert. They requested some Jazz, and we started to play "When the sun goes down". My mandolin mentor tricked me into taking a solo (whell he had me on a point of no return) so I took the break, and, concerning it was my first, went reasonably well. At least I harvested some applause.

    Hooray!

    Nice!
(Of course, once he's experienced applause after a solo, we'll never get him back to the farm...)

    wow! applause!
usually when i take a solo in a jazz context, i get the slack jaw and the glazed eyes.
i do a duo with a guitarist at a fancy restaurant. it's all acoustic, and the restaurant is owned by a jazz bassist, so we can play what we want. every time we play, at least one person asks the waitress if we could turn down.
