I tried it, it's actually okay - I mean, it's quite hard to play and it doesn't sound that great, but unlike the guitar version, it is at least feasible to play it like a mandolin, kinda. I doubt if anyone would really want to spend a lot of time playing an iPhone mandolin, but as a bit of fun to pass an idle hour it's fine.

I've got the mando app. I consider it a novelty, a toy. It's awkward to play and after the new wore off, which took about a day, I haven't touched it since. I get a lot more use out of the "Tick" metronome and the "Cleartune" electronic tuner. I also like the "Key Signature Trainer" and the "Rhythm in Reach" rhythm trainer.

I have a phone which I use to make and receive phone calls. I have two mandolins which I use to play music with. I know many people really get into the tech stuff, but it seems the farther the technology field goes with providing entertainment devices, the faster I run the other way.

I know -- I'm just an old codger.

The point is, old codger, once your phone can do what your computer, TV, radio, alarm clock, hi-fi deck, watch, camera, camcorder, DVD player, video recorder, newspaper, magazine, books, bookshelves, CD racks, car, pen, typewriter, fax machine, printer can do, you can throw out these old devices, thereby having more functionality from less tech equipment and a lot more space in your home. So the future will be much more lightweight and traditional than the overblown consumer-product-centric past of which you're so fond

Hey, all. I'm one of those techy-geeky guys, and I also own an iPhone. As an avid musician, I think Guitar Toolkit is a must-have. It's expensive ($10), but it's well worth it. It has an UNBELIEVABLY accurate tuner, scale chart, metronome and chord chart, with full touch-control audio- even individual frets or a strum. Now here's the best part- after a recent update, instead of having these settings for just 6-string guitar, 4 and 5-string bass, the dev team has now added a 6-string bass, banjo, MANDOLIN and ukulele. It's an aesthetically beautiful app, and it has replaced ALL my tuner/chord/metronome apps on my phone. FYI, I have no financial interest in the app, but it is my most used app on my phone. I wanted to post this because the name is very misleading, and I'm sure most people think it's just for guitars. I posted a youtube link- it's and older version of the app that only supports 6-string guitar and 4 and 5-string bass, but it will give you a solid overall idea of how it works. Enjoy!!

Looking around YouTube, there's mandolin, violin, trumpet, sax, trombone, clarinet, probably a lot more. It would be kinda cool to have an iPhone orchestra, just for kicks.

If there is a phone that can do what my car can do, I want it! I didn't know there was an app for that... how many miles per gallon do you get?

I am quite sure there won't be a phone that can do what my OM can do, though. It would just not feel the same.

P.S. Even if there's no phone to replace a car, future cars could work like phones: you sign a 2-year contract with an electricity company and they give you an electric car for one dollar. After 2 years, you can extend the contract and get a new car...

I have the Mandolin Chords app on my iPhone and I use it as a reference very often. I have other references, but this one is nearly always right in my pocket! Even used it to search out a new chord during a jam.

A guy in work is constantly annoying me with his new iphone apps. He has the guitar app. He's always horsing around with it. He has a real guitar in his office that he rarely touches. Maybe if he put more time into actually practicing the real guitar he wouldn't suck at it like he does.
