Great photo. Nobody had a sense of humor like Duffy. Would love to hear what went on in that workshop.

That's an awful lot of talent in a small space.

You know, with Bill Monroe being the "Father of Bluegrass" and all you think he could have afforded a much nicer mandolin. That old thing he's playing looks like it's been through the ringer!

So Duffey's saying to himself, "Is that how you make the D chord? I've been doin' it wrong all these years...!"

Oh yeah, Duffey's mug just begs for a caption...we should have a contest. And I assume that's CW behind Osborne, just by the neck of the Martin peeking out.

Is there some fancy inlay on the fretboard of that Martin?

Forgive my ignorance. I like some bluegrass but I am not real knowledgeable about all the performers, and I would venture a guess that I am not the only one.
Is this David Grisman, Red Rector, Bobby Osborne, Charlie Waller, Bill Monroe, John Duffy and ???
I have no idea who PR would be.

    Forgiveness not required.

RR = Ronnie Reno, behind Dawg
PR = Pete Rowan (on guitar)

Factoid: at least 4 pre-war F-5 mandolins on that stage. Even then, those guys knew what was what.

WAY cool photo! I have never seen a photo of Dawg without a beard, I'd never have recognized him!

From the shade of the top, that's a vintage-looking D-28 that Rowan's picking. I was wondering if it might be the one Monroe had that went missing . . . seems like there was a thread on that guitar a couple years back, but I was unsuccessful locating it.

It sure is a cool pic. I especially like the way it seems to capture aspects of the personalities (as previous posters here have suggested). Especially the middle three guys.

When I first looked at the picture I thought the person on guitar was Tom Gray...I`ll take your word for it that it is Peter Rowan but I`m not convinced....Most people only know Duffey from seeing him on stage or around other pickers but I have had the great pleasuer (Most of the time) to hang around with him when the Gentelmen were at the top of their game...John was an avid duckpin bowler and was a serious person away from his music on stage or in a jam session...I for one really miss him.....Willie
