Thread: Electric Mandocello

    Default Electric Mandocello

Sorry if this has already been posted.

I would like to try my hand at building a mandocello over the summer. I would like to have it look like an a-style mandocello, but semi-hollow so it's more like a guitar. Is this possible? Any other ideas for body shape?

This is my first time building anything. How would this happen? Where can I find proper pickups? Would this be worth it? What are some good tone and fingerboard woods? Where do I get supplies?

I've made a couple of them in my Renaissance semi-hollow guitar line, and they're really incredible. I went to a long, 27" scale and used my cutaway guitar body shape. They were semi hollow with bent sides and a Western red cedar center block inside.

Do they sound similar to an acoustic, or completely different? How hard is it for a novice luthier?

I would also make mine very simple and no-frills. I wanna keep cost down.
