We have a local phenom on the fiddle, she's going away this fall on a bgrass scholarship, she plays Brilliancy as a contest tune. Perfectly. I want to ask her to do it on mando, but she has been too busy to come to the jams, it seems. At my particular talent level, the list is just too long. Go for it, Jim, it's a beautiful song. Perhaps a little "notey".

In the past i've set myself several musical 'goals' to reach & i've managed them all - maybe not 100 % correctly as i'm an ear player, & getting all the right notes in 'absolutely'the right order isn't that easy. One tune i'd love to play as well as the guy i have playing it on CD,would be to be able to play "Cazadero" as well as a certain Mr J.Reichsman. It's an easy going, extremely tuneful tune & one that i'm never tired of listening to. Having said that,i'd love to be able to play a few of the things that Evan Marshall accomplishes with such supreme ease - so much music,so little time !,

I've gotten the urge lately to take a stab at Jerusalem Ridge, bit I still don't have the melody down solily in my mind.

I've yet to get past the first few bars of the Bach Chaccone (from Sonata no. 2 in d), but I don't have nearly the time it would take to learn. I couldn't imagine a more fulfilling project, though.
Brilliancy is one more notey tune, with a TON of fundamental stuff that you have to really work at to get anywhere with it. I've been working on it for nearly 2 years now, and while I can play it, I'm still a very long way from mastering it. In fact, I'll probably never master it, but it has gotten to the point that it is a lot of fun to play. Still a substantial challenge to focus and execute everything cleanly all the way through, but fun and becoming more so with practice.
So, I guess my choice would be Stingray. Not the intro - I usually skip that (it's the only thing that Sam did that made me roll my eyes). The meat of that tune is just nasty. And I mean that in the best way possible.
