No, not 'nuff said. Details please! Describe the experience in vivid detail, sounds like you had a great time. I have thought of attending that one some day, and I would like to know the good, bad, and ugly (if any?).
Hey! I was at the academy too and I can't say enough good things about it. Everything from the morning concerts, to the instrument classes to the electives were all great, not to mention the teachers. This was my second time at the academy and I hope I can go another time or two.
Really, it's the most fun you can ever have with your clothes on. I've been twice, and by the time the actual festival rolls around, you've seen and played so much music, you're ready for a hot shower and a bed.
Man, that three ring circle set was unreal. Andy leftwich totally sucks.
Lets see...
Started every day with killer strong hot coffee, fruit an pastry.
Then picked a little to wake up. followed by Killer mornig concerts by the pros in a pavillion that is smaller than the grade school lunch room (classes havent even started yet).
Yes three ring circle blew me a way and Andy Leftwich may be my new favorite mando player.
Then Jam for a while and have lunch then off to class
The classes were great. About a dozen folks or so and by the end of the day my brain was full...just in time for electives, dinner and cmpground jamming till when ever.
Then get up and do it again.
I thought all the teachers were outstanding.
What its NOT is hard core music school what it is is inspiring, fantastic, and a
S@#$load of fun.
I highly reccomend it and plan to attend again

Didn't I tell ya it was a blast? It's one of the most increadible things I've ever done.
Looking forward to hearing what you learned
Sounds like it was very great.
If you don't mind, what specifically did John, Matt and Andy teach? Tunes? Licks? Did they hand out charts?
What where the range of players abilities and how did it impact the classes/jams? Did most of the attendees come "armed" with the ability to play a large amount of fiddle tunes? Is reading music (and/or tab) required?
I'm really looking into attending next year (as I live in Denver), but still a little hesitant.

I was in the intermediate class and the students were of the caliber that can play fiddle tunes they know at moedrate speed and can jam and improv at an intermediate level some were beter than others but it was not a problem by any means and the variability actually dded to the classes.
John worked on pick direction exersizes and some licks and patterns
Matt did some tune stuff and improv using double stops
Andy did licks tunes and some finger gymnastics
They all however did alot of Q&A and demonstrations.
I recommend it for ANYONE
