    Default Daley and Red Diamond

the last thread lead me in this direction. These 2 seem a better comparison.

Who has played these 2 and what do you think?

Like we said in the last thread, you really need to play them for yourself. Or at least call Sim and Don and have a discussion with them. They are both high quality mandolins made by expert craftsmen. But you may like one better than the other for various reasons. We can offer opinions all day but in the end, it's gonna be YOUR mandolin. At this level of quality they're all gonna be good but it'll be some of your personal preferences that help you make the final decision.

I have two Daleys and have played two Red Diamonds... wow, that'd be a tough choice. A local friend has an early Red Diamond A model. I'd buy that sucker off of him today but he won't ever sell it.... it is that good.

It'd be hard to go wrong with either of these if you like that Loar tone.

Don once told me his A's were his favorite.

Hey......I've found they all are different, even by the same maker from the same batch.......your question could be Red Diamond or Red Diamond, Monteleone or Monteleone, Gilchrist or Gilchrist. When you play "the one" that floats your boat, you'll know.....just like Rick above lusts after that A model Red Diamond. Sometimes you need to get in line, tell the owner "if you ever sell this" & hope the owner gets MAS & is gonna some day let it go....hopefully they remember you...and you're ready when you get the call to make a purchase. Timing can be important in these acquisitions. Good luck!

This is SO TRUE. Each instrument has subtle differences (some not so subtle), even from the same log. You have to play them...or just go on "photos and faith" and hope for the best!!

RD#149 now in the classifieds used to live here. Grab that one--you won't need to compare it to anything else.
