    Default Any A-style case suggestions?

Hey everybody. I just recently placed an order for a Silver Angel economandolin, which does not come with a case. I am looking for a good case option and would like to keep my price limit between $200-$250. Do any of you have any opinions on case materials (fiberglass, wood, etc...) that I could get within this price range? Would I get a better deal trying to find a used case? Any one have a case for their A-style that they particularly like? Also, what should I consider as far as making sure that the case fits my mandolin properly, without spending the extra money on a custom case. Or, better yet, can I find a custom case in my price range? I have a few months before the mandolin will be ready, so I have plenty of time to look around and find a good case for my new axe. Thanks for any thoughts you all might have!

The MF case is fine tho I think I would go for an arched case for a little bit more protection. That Golden Gate one looks pretty good for the price. There is also this Canadian one which I believe is similar to the TKL cases.

I recently bought a Krishot A5 and didn't care for the loose fit of the case that came with it. After looking at several Caltons and other high end cases I decided that I didn't travel with my instrument enough to justify such a high end case. I decided on the TKL "Deluxe American Vintage Series" mandolin case. This is the same style case I have for my Martin D-18VS and I have been very impressed by the price for the craftsmanship and level of protection. I bought mine at Elderlys

The case is an F style buy my Krishot fits in nice and snug.

I really like the Gator ABS case that came with my Kentucky 505. It works for A and F style mandos, and when using it for the A style mando, the space that would accommodate the scroll on the F style can be used for strap storage.

    Nice case, Tal!
I might be in the market for a good quality case soon (for a Pomeroy A-4) and I'll definitely be keeping that one in mind - I was just looking at the elderly website today but didn't see that one because I only did a search for A style cases. Nice to see the photo of your Krishot fitting in it so well!

    Cheers,

I'll second what KanMando said, the Gator ABS suits all my mandolins perfectly.

    Jill,

Enjoy your Pomeroy. It is ironic: I live in Glenwood Springs, the home of Don Paine's Pomeroys. I sure wish I could afford one of his mandolins.

I've been very happy with my case. With a little squishing the case was even able to accommodate a tone-gard. The case has now packed down enough to fit instrument with tone-gard

I recently bought a SAGA fiberglass case from The Mandolin Store and have been very happy with it, it is technically made for F styles but that doesn't bother me. I had a TKL shaped and arched lid case prior to this one. The TKL was nice, but my mandolin didn't fit very snug inside of it. The new FG case however fits my mando very snug (plus it looks pretty cool too).

At $275, a hair above your budget, this cool Concord Adjustable Case designed by Michael Lewis will give you a custom fit, and will probably fit just about any other mandolin you own as well...

Thanks for all of the suggestions everybody. It looks like there is plenty in here at all ends of my budget. I'm sure that one of these cases (and any of the other cases that might be suggested soon) will be a great choice for my mandolin. I really like the look of the TKL that Tal suggested. When my mandolin arrives and I get a case I will be sure to put up a review of the one I select. And as a bonus, I will throw in pictures of a new mandolin inside of it!

I'd recommend a Travelite. They're made for F-style mandos, but a standard size A-style fits perfectly (like my Collings MT). It's lightweight, very protective, easily worn over the shoulder or as a backpack, well-made, and inexpensive. Unless it's a very expensive instrument that would warrant a Calton, I can't see why anybody'd need anything more.
