    A previous thread referred to the practice guides at Mandozine. I checked out the list compiled by Jethro Burns and he refers to open position scales. Can someone define open position scales please?

    Open position scales are played by utilizing "open strings" as opposed to fretting the note. For example, if you were playing an 'A' major scale in open position you would play the 'D' by picking the 3rd string instead of playing the 7th fret on the 4th string.
