    Default Dunlop Delrin 500 Ellipticals

    Hi all,

I have played guitar with the Dunlop Delrin 500 standard tear drop picks and really liked them, other than the fact that they are pretty small. I just learned that Dunlop makes--or used to make--Dunlop Delrin 500s in "elliptical" (rounded triangle) shape. I am looking for this shape in 1.14 but after an extensive search online I can't find them available anywhere. Anyone know the scoop? I queried jimdunlop.com but I haven't heard back yet.

    Any info would be apprecieated.

    Thanks,

    Tal

    Thanks,

I will look there again. Last time I checked there were a lot of the teardrop shapes but no elliptical triangle shapes.

I know this is years late, HA! but those Dunlop Delrin 500s in an elliptical (large triangular) shape are, last time I checked, a special order from Dunlop and you have to order a bunch of them. They can be found very thin (only up to about .96mm) by a few dealers but the thicker ones with really good tone are still not to be found, as far as I have learned and it is now 2012.

I received a 12 pack of Dunlop 500's 1.14mm thick yestrerday.I found one that i'd bought years back in an old drawer a few days ago, tried it out on my mandolins & loved it.It gives me what the Wegen Bluegrass picks give me,but smoooooother over the strings.
One thing that i did on receiving the 12 pack, was to measure the thickness of my original pick using a micrometer,it measured 0.047" in thickness.I opened the 12 pack & i could tell simply by the feel of them in my fingers, that some were thicker than others. Now 1.14 mm = 0.0448" - so, my original pick is thicker than 1.14mm by just over 0.002". Seven of the new picks were spot on 1.14 mm in thickness, but 5 of them were the same as my original pick. You wouldn't think that maybe such a small difference in thickness would affect the tone, but it was the difference between being a bit 'thin' sounding & a lovely, rounded full tone - i'm well pleased,
