    Default Moody Blues Anyone?

I was fooling around with Tuesday and Knights in White Satin this afternoon. Great songs, and they lend themselves to the mandolin.

I loved that group! Back in the '70s, a friend of mine tried to convince me that they were aliens from another planet.

Do you work in some tremelo to get a good Mellotron sound?

Thanks for the link -- I especially liked Legend Of A Mind with Tim O'Brien, and Nights in White Satin with AK.

A better grass version of NIWS is on a recording from the 90's by Mike Garris of the Baltimore area. It rocks.

Yeah. I loved the MBs. I liked the BG videos. Those guys sound a lot like the pickin' on folks.

I flew with the flute player once to England when I toured from the punk band X. The band was cool during the early when they were in thier pop years with Denny Lane, my favorite was "Go Now"

I used to listen to that record "Every Good Boy Deserves Favour", playing the intro + Story in Your Eyes over and over. Never occurred to me doing that on the mandolin yet, however...

The Moody Blues have been one of my favorite groups of all time for a long long time. I sampled some of the songs from the link. Just didn't do it for me.

Alan, our similar tastes never cease to amaze me. You're the first person to mention that Mike Garris recording. No one else I know has even heard of it. I'd love to get a look at your collection sometime.

"Knights in White Satin" is even more fun if you substitute the following lyrics. FYI for the uninitiated, White Castle is an open-24-hours-a day hamburger chain in parts of the US that specializes in greasy little square hamburgers (aka "sliders"). It is a favorite of the "late night party crowd."

    Nights in White Castle
    I'm drunk once again
    Sliders I'm eatin'
    With my drunken friends

The bars are all closed now
There's nowhere else left to go
    What's in these wrapped burgers
I really don't want to know

    'Cause I love them
    Yes, I love them
    Oh, how I love them

    Nights in White Castle
    Now it's a quarter to 4:00
But I ain't goin' home now
'Cause I'm still lookin' to score

How I love these gut busters
    With their little square buns
But I know I'll get heartburn
And a bad case of the runs

    But I love them
    Yes, I love them
    Oh, how I love them
    Ohhh...

    Breathe deep....before you consume...
An odor like no other fills the room
Late night people in lines that won’t end
Each with only loose change left to spend

A chick in the parking lot steps in some gum
Lonely man orders fries but gets none
Mother in the dining room changes her son
The grease has soaked clear thru the bun

Cold hearted waitress been working all night
Preparing the patties that are gone in one bite
The pickles are yellow the onions are white
I had 3 belly bombers, 2 fish and a Sprite

    Great minds...pick alike...lol.

That Garris record is good, has Dawg, Ronnie McCoury, Jon Glik on it. The mandolin picker on Knights in White Satin is Marc McGlashan, a terrific musician who spent some time with The Gibson Brothers.
