Default The Old Grey Mare Went Tearin' Through The Forest

Norman Blake flatpicks this tune on his "The Hobo's Last Ride" recording and Monroe did it on his Uncle Pen album. Anybody out there have an mp3 of the Monroe version? Anyone playing this tune? I really like the Blake version and am starting to learn it on guitar.

    Hey Shaun--

Yeah I play this one. Monroe (called it "Old Grey Mare...the Wilderness") played it in "A" but most folks at jams play it in G and call it "Old Blind Dog." I like both.

There are words to it too. I only know the chorus (B Part):

    Brave boys die
    Brave boys die
    Brave boys die
    Way down in Alabam

I do have an mp3 of the Monroe version so if you email me at fkeller AT scicable DOT net, I'll send it along. I'd attach it but that's probably a little too close to "file sharing" for the comfort of all of us

Another good one, fellers. I've got the Monroe version but not Uncle Norman's.

I've just about got a decent guitar version learned. It's a relatively easy tune out of G. I haven't tried coming up with a mandolin version yet. Norman also recorded this on the Don Edwards & Peter Rowan recording "High Lonesome Cowboy." Good stuff!
