Not to make myself look too dumb, but is that a liuto she is playing or some other kind of instrument? I love the tone.

She calls it a soprano lute but I think it is what most of us call mandolino. I am sure that there is someone here who knows the maker and which instrument (if any) was copied.

The Mandolino that Caterina plays is built by Frank-Peter Dietrich. The original instrument was built by Francesco and Giuseppe Presbler in 1769. You can see more pictures in his site:
