Default Adventures In Bluegrass 14: Streaming Video

Following post will be a link to the newest Adventures In Bluegrass
video of the March 3rd 2006 Frank Wakefield Band concert
at the Freight & Salvage in Berkeley California.

The links will be for fast broadband and slow broadband.
I would like to hear back with your impressions or problems

If you have a FAST Broadband connection
you will see a much better picture with better sound.
This is no place for dial up unless you want to buffer a day or so.
Clips sound best when played with a Windows Media 9 or above
player and without EQ or Bass Boost.

    Well?

Any comments? Did the links work for you?
Did you hate the fiddler?... No, No forget that.
    Did you like the sound?

I am thankful to all the DAT Heads and whatever you
call them now that they record with hard drives for the great
audio that I have for this and the many other shows that
will eventually find their way to the Adventures in Bluegrass series.
Not to mention the Frank fans that worked with me on tours, up until 2007.

Can someone tell me if the Real Player links play?
I can't test them here. I can encode them, but that is it.
I have tested fully the Windows Media links and there
are hundreds of people downloading them, but I am
not sure about the .rv files.

Ok Jim, thanks for your feedback.
This list is not what it used to be. Back 10 years ago
there would be lots of help with something like this.
Everyone must be out looking for work with no time
for such things. That said there are a bunch of people
watching the video clips. I can see this in my server reports.
I have received a lot of feed back on the Windows Media links
from people who are on the newsletter list from all around the world.
They have been pretty helpful. It is interesting and kind of
sad that the USA has the slowest broadband in the modern world.
    Australia has between 12 and 25 mb/s, Sweden has about 8 to 10 mb/s,
Hong Kong has 6 to 8 mb/s. Norway has in places 50 mb/s,
    and we have 1 mb/s sometimes 2 mb/s. j
    What have we become?

I have listened to the first one so far and I must compliment all of you for your performance. The sound quality and picture are excellent in the HD version. Also the playing is superb. Thank you for sharing.

I should really be practicing instead of sitting in front of the computer.

Jim - I clicked on the first one for 'slow high-speed' and it fired up Windows Media Player and played just fine! Looks and sounds good!

Jim Moss, got the link, had to use the slow version, even having a high speed broadband. I saved the link and enjoyed the music. Thank you for the link.

Thanks for the feedback. I think Frank was feeling good that night.
I like Bluegrass Breakdown, Frank and I made sure it didn't slow down.
In this time of economic worries it is good to have something upbeat
    that is free to view.

Does anyone know what Obama's ideas are for Broadband. We could sure
use an overhaul. Just imagine the quality of video we could broadcast at 25 mb/s
if there were fast lines going to everyone. I am on dialup out here in
the mountains still. I am thinking of going to WildBlue High Speed Internet
which is a satellite service. You who live in the city have so many cool
services available to you... like natural gas for heating and cheap broadband.

I think the next concert(s) I will make into an Adventures in Bluegrass will
be with the pre 2004 band that had Graham Murphy on banjo.

Jim - it worked fine for me. Yes, the sound is superb and the lighting is very good too. Excellent performances, of course. With high-speed (tho' at $50/month I wouldn't call it cheap) streamed onto my new Dell 22" LCD (on sale at Dell site $210) with audio through a Cambridge Soundworks amp/speaker system I have an amazing little personal theatre. You're stone right about the wealth of material available, too. The internet has reduced broadcast TV to a veritable horse-and-buggy system. I too look for further improvements - it is an amazingly democratic system where the cream rises to the top on its own merits, not by corporate agendas.

Frank was hot that night and he was having a great time, as was the
case most of the times we played... or drove to gigs... or loitered in restaurants.
By the way, those women were talking about DOGS! I was there.
Boy were they taken off guard when he said what he said he said.
Frank said a similar thing when we were in the warm-up room with
    King Wilkie.
    Too funny!

I shot most of our shows. Many have multi camera and most have multi track
audio by way of DAT Heads and the camera mics. The show in Astoria actually
did have an ADAT recorder for the audio.

In time I will put more shows out on my web site at this quality. I let selected
audiences, like here, have access to the links first. Once I put the link on
a BluegrassNewsletter I will limit the video to the Slow DSL and Real Player
or the site will be overloaded. The site has had no problems so far.

If you want to get on the newsletter emailing and if you are not already
on the list, go to the Opt-In link on the AB14 pages and I will include you.
That said, it has been 8 months since I put out a newsletter.
I tell you, I have interview material with an ex Bluegrass Boy that will
get us banned from this list. !-) I don't know that I should ever publish
that stuff, even though the interviewee could care less.

I think I have to exercise good taste.

    PS: thanks for your help!

I have been getting requests to post the
other Adventures in Bluegrass links here as it
turns out a few years back I created a web site
called Frank Wakefield on Film. This site is an easy
place to find all the Adventures in Bluegrass links.
This is the link to that site:

    Frank Wakefield on Film

These same links can be found within the 1997 to 2007 timeline at
    this site below:

    Frank Wakefield Band Tours 1997 - 2007

    I hope this helps.

Say Jim, you were going to get me a copy of the show here in Kalamazoo from about 2 years ago at Kraftbrau. I am the guy that loaned Frank the "Get up John" mandolin. PM me and I will be happy to get you address info. I'm sure you got busy with other projects and forgot.

Here is a listing of all of our shows (which I booked):
    http://www.frankwakefield.info/

    Which show was this at?

I can't get you the show, but if I have good video
from the show where he plays your mandolin I might be able to
get some photos from it. It has been 2 years since I booked Frank's shows.
We played Kalamazoo long before that. Was I there?

    Yeah, you were there.
It was in 2004, Great Lakes Grass opened. My recollection is that it was a Sunday evening show.
Starting about 7:30. We opened, My guitar player got coffee for Frank. Those pictured are that night
