Default FLATIRON 3MW OCTAVE MANDOLIN on EBAY

Is it me or does the picture not match the item. Looks like a mandolin not an octave mandolin. (It most likely a mistake)

doesnt look like an OM to me. plus the description says HSC (black lining), and that doesnt match the pic either.

Could be a mandola, but definitely not an OM.

    Flatiron 2M mandola for comparison

I agree that it looks like a Mandola, but it's definitely a 3MW - binding top and bottom, rosteete round soundhole. In today's market he's probably starting it at it's max value...

Does the model "number" indicate anything about whether it is a mandolin, mandola, or octave? I used to think "1" meant mandolin, "2" meant mandola, and "3" meant OM, probably because every OM I've come across is always a 3. But I apparently I am mistaken about that assumption. I've never read all the way through the 37 page "Compulsive purchase- Flatiron 1N" topic, but it's probably mentioned there somewhere what all the letters and numbers mean.

1 is basic - no binding no rosette.
2 is moving up - binding on top, no binding on bottom, no rosette
3 is tops - binding top and bottom, rosette round soundhole.

The M is Maple. I don't know what the W is.

I have a 3MC which is Curly Maple, but the C might not mean Curly.

    A nK is Koa - where n = 1 - 3.

Thumbs up Re: FLATIRON 3MW OCTAVE MANDOLIN on EBAY

    Hey guys

Nice spot and thanks to some who mailed me on that ebay Item you saved us a lot of embarassment on selling something that was way out whack as to what we said it was. You are all correct in your assumption that it is not an octave it is in fact a 3MW Mandolin, after a lot of emails and chats on the phone we finally figured it out. Im currently correcting the listing for my wife and hope I get it right, by all means please correct me if I get it wrong by emailing us at Ebay.
