Default Big Joe Vest & "The Cowboy Way"

    Hello,
In keeping with recent threads I have read expressing high regard for certain retailers and repair persons, kindly allow me to add Big Joe’s Guitar Works to the list of those who imho rate first class both in quality of workmanship and treatment of the sensibilities of the customer.
I recently considered the purchase of an “as is” c ’42 Gibson A-50 from an online retailer because it was going for a reasonable cost and had the nut width I was looking for. I hesitated due to not only my own lack of experience in light of what repairs might be necessary, but also because I could think of no one I could fall back on for help if it all (no pun) fell apart. (I lack the wherewithal to purchase “vintage” instruments, and was only interested in great tone, and less pain in my left hand.)
Then I remembered reading not only that Mr. Vest had recently opened his own establishment, but also of the high regard he is obviously held in by many of the more experienced Cafe goers. Purchase made (day before stock market crashed) and shipped direct to Big Joe’s.
Long story short, I hold that A-50 in my happy grubby paws thanks to fair cost, very adept workmanship, artistic attention to detail, and a gentleman who was willing to take the time to explain to me in detail the things I needed to know to make decisions related to this restoration/repair.
Not only do I thank Mr Vest and his employees for this project well done, but also those members of the Cafe who in the past have taken the time to share their impressions and experiences about repairpersons, builders, and retailers who have treated them both well,...and poorly. Resources are way too hard to come by these days, and any help I can get investing well with good people, is deeply appreciated. Thank you.
Fare well, daver (..and w/any apologies necessary to Ranger Doug)

I have had a number of experiences with Joe, both while at Gibson, after but before his shop and after his shop. All were good. He is a straight forward wonderful person. His sons are really good guys too. Here is a thread of pictures from Big Joe's new shop for those of you new that did not see them before. They give a good feel of the place. http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/sh...ad.php?t=43308
If in Nashville go visit Big Joe's shop. You will not be disappointed and you might come home with a really nice instrument.

I just had a wonderful experience with Big Joe, I E-Mailed him about the new 600 series The Loar Mando. and he had a lot of good things to say about them and had just received some from the IBMA show.
He gave me a great price on one and put a new set of strings on it and set it up for me,it plays like a dream!
If everyone in the business took care of customers the way Big Joe does you would not hear any horror stories!
    Great experience,with a great guy....Thanks!!
