Ithaca Guitar Works (Harry Aceto), Dewitt Mall in Ithaca
Ithaca Stringed Instruments (Eric Aceto) in T-burg

Finger Lakes Guitar Repair (Nate Clark) on W King Rd, Ithaca
Harris mandolins in Ithaca (also on W King Rd), he builds, not sure if he would set up

I have personally dealt with all of these, you could not go wrong with any of them.

I am not sure if he is still doing repairs but Troy Harris is in Ithaca. He sis a beautiful job on a friend's Gibson. There is also Ithaca Stringed Instruments. Harry Eibert is in Syracuse and I beieve he is an excellent luthier.

Troy Harris in Ithaca would do a superb job, as would Marty Macica in Schuylerville. Marty's one of the only people Wakefield lets touch his Loar. Either way, you can't go wrong w/ Marty or Troy. And not to knock Ithaca guitar works (because they do great work), but if I were having work done on my mandolin, I'd personally like to have a luthier of Troy or Marty's caliber doing it.

I'll defend Ithaca Guitar Works, in that Harry Aceto has seen just about everything in his long repair career. Troy is indeed very good and very careful -- but isn't he concentrating on building fine mandolins now? I've used Eric Aceto for both major and minor repairs and setups, he is such an excellent musician as well as craftsman that he really understands playability (not that the others don't...); he also builds mandos (I own one).

There is an informal rule in Ithaca fusion music that at least one Aceto brother must be in the band...

    In Rochester:
    Lehmann Stringed Instruments
    Stutzman's Guitar Center

Have had excellent work done at both shops.

Ditto what Allen said re:Stutzman's and also Mobile Music in Canandaigua www.mobilemusic.downtowncanandaigua.com

Tim is a mandolin player himself and does a wonderful job on set up.

Would also recommend Lehman or Stutzman's in Rochester. But since you are in Binghamton, Ithaca sounds like your best bet.
