Thread: Can this mandolin be saved?

    I was thinking this could be a thread for those of us with damaged mandolins to post some pictures and those luthiers among us can comment and give us hope. Perhaps when a mandolin is actually saved, before and after pictures, and even some "in process" pictures can be posted.

    I wold post mine but I have posted it in the bowlback neck repair thread, which is where I got the idea. But I will post the pic.

    So please someone, get this thread kicked off!

    So... are these ribs separating from the neck or is the neck pulling up towards the top?

    It really doesn't matter, it ends up being the same situation: take the neck all the way off, and remount it correctly. Not a lot of fun, but there are not many options.

    Hi Jeff, pop a metal ruler (or similar straight edge) along the top, resting on fret 1 or in a nut slot, and the other end on the last fret. How much of a gap below the ruler and the top of fret 10 or 12 do you have??? Dave
