It's a Pumpkin Top and it plays like butter. The sound is amazing! #Thanks for the kind words. #Larry is a truly amazing luthier. #lkbrownviolins.com
Gorgeous...
I stepped up on the platform, the man gave me the news;
He said: "You must be joking son, where did you get those shoes...."
"Your man doesn't sound so good!!"

Very nice. #I really like the minimalist look of F-2's. #One suggestion for the builder - gold tuners & tailpiece don't seem consistent with the F-2 aesthetic.
Here are photos of my new Larry Brown F2 3 Point. Larry called me the other day and said I needed to come up to his shop before he shipped out four new mandolins and check them out. They all played great and sounded great, but sounded one was better than the rest. It was a real cannon. My wife and daughter came with me also and they also said it sounded better, different, than the others. I called Larry back several days later and he said it was gone, I was sad but happy some lucky stiff got the pick of the litter. Well on August 15th, our wedding anniversary, I was the lucky stiff and I received the F2 3 Point cannon her. Red spruce top, birds eye/quilted maple back,12" radius, .080" frets.
Ralph, what a lovely anniversary present! Congratulations and I'll bet you never forget your anniversary date! lol!!
I really enjoy the "antiqued" but not quite 'distressed' look of Squire's Brown mandolin, too. Absolutely lovely, both of 'em.
It may be a fine distinction (after reading a lot of the discussions here about distressing...), but this one looks quite right
to me, "antiqued".
I'm very glad that I don't have to make a choice between the two, Squire's antiqued one or Ralph's... woo...
Thanks!

I've seen Mr. Brown's mandolins in the classifieds. Very nice work and great price. Dang-it, though. Now the cat's out of the bag!
A couple of mandolins
A couple guitars
An Upright Bass
Some banjos
Life is like a box of molases, or somehting like that.
Here is another opportunity for me to show off my LK Brown F2 3-point; distressed blackface, nickel hardware, pumpkin back and sides. I wanted ivoroid tuners, but they are not available from Grover, so I used black. Amazing sound, excellent workmanship, a GREAT mandolin.![]()
