I was watching a program on GAC, Great American Country, on the recording of A Hundred Miles or More. In the segment showing the recording of "Sawing on the Strings", I noticed that Dan Tyminski played the mando lead, which kind of surprised me as Sam Bush sang back up and was was playing counter meledies when Allison played fiddle leads. Dan was doing the deal.

I'm not familiar with this version of this tune but Dan can really play, don't think otherwise!

Listen to his instrumental playing on the "Young Mando Monsters" (renamed "Mandolin Artistry") produced by J.Gaudreau...
Two tunes (Sassafras and Ernest T. Grass); hot picking!

I thought Dan played mandolin in one of his early bands. He plays it a few times in AKUS double album but he's not really featured. His breaks are short and low key.

That is a great clip. #Them folks looked a LOT younger. #John Hartford playing fiddle. #Thanks for that link. #Brought back a bunch of old memories. #I stand corrected, Mark O'Conner on fiddle. The hat fooled me.#Look at how young Ronnie Bowman looks.

Mr. T has very solid mando credintials. #This one is always in my CD rotation:

Dan is a great mandolin picker -- he has his own style -- as shown in the examples given above. #

He is also -- in my opinion -- one of the very best voices in bluegrass or folk.

He really sings those "sorrow" songs. Here is my favorite Dan song -- "Blue trail of sorrow" -- yes there is mandolin content!!

I concur with all the others posting. #

I went to some related L.R.B. videos on YouTube from that original link, and Dan definitely is a quality mandolin player with his own distinct style!

    Thanks for sharing. #
