Once again... Wishnevsky emando! Eyaaggghh!!!
I've never liked Wishnevsky emandos, but I just paid a visit to his web site, and I found his acoustic instruments rather interesting. I especially enjoyed some of his guitars and upright basses, as they have an interesting "free-hand" quality to their design, as if their plans were drawn or were modeled after instruments that Dan Piraro has included in his Bizarro comics at times.

An acquaintance of mine picked up a Wishnevsky mandocello and brought it over. I have to say I was really impressed. This thing had quality where it counts and no frills where they don't. There was no finish on it anywhere, just bare sanded wood. But the neck was comfortable; it played perfectly in tune and had a good pickup. It was secondhand and cost only $150; I have to say he got a screamin' deal.

Was it a solidbody electric, or a hollowbody with a pickup? He has a couple acoustic ones on the 'bay right now that look a whole lot like those "mandolas" from Cassandra Elk.
Also, did it still have the corian nut/bridge? IIRC old listmember Petr Klima had one of his instruments and those were the first things to go.
"So what's dealey-o here? Custom color? Sanded down and refinished with amber stain? Replacement body?"
Who really knows, but my guess is he just coated it with whatever he had around. Lots of them have the strap button in different spots due to ripping out. I've seen a few that guys had back in the day that have been butchered far worse.
Funny how I remember Cal's Corral far too well, and his "I'll (fill in the blank: eat a bug, rope this goat, etc) to sell you a car!". The guy was a real piece of work.

My guess is that the mando had to be refinished after Cal's dog Spot got hold of it.
Here's an interesting goldtop mini-Les Paul e-mando by Mark Wybinala from New Jersey. It was on eBay earlier, but you can't say Les Paul on eBay. You can post a $99 fabrique-en-Chine piece of plywood and say it's a Gibson acoustic mandolin, but you can't say Les Paul.

Frank Black's Tenor Guitar (w/ DeArmond).
Watch the video. What are the chances this thing is in good shape after that?
That's becouse the saintly Mr. Paul has too many friends, Martin; nah, not really!
But its kinda cool looking but whats up that bad pic of the strap button, wonder what made him think that was useful?

I wonder if you could plug/fill the neck pocket/bridge mount of a Mandobird on the other side - voila non-reverse shape! Or I suppose you could just learn how to play it left-handed instead, LOL.
While I was browsing eBay earlier this morning three fake Gibsons were pulled while I was actually looking at one of them, all from Jersey Guitar and Music who purport to buy them as seconds from the manufacuterer, set them up and sell them on, all were called ' Gibson Maestro ' models, are thse people for real ?

We have plenty of threads, including this one, devoted to discussion of eBay Gibson fakes. The present thread, however, is concerned only with electric instruments.

Any idea what make this might be? It looks much like an Errington, and has an "E" on the headstock, but doesn't have the through-the-body string design.
If it's an Errington, or a comparable luthier-made one, I might well bid, but if it's a generic Factory model, I won't. Any ideas?
Martin
It has the body shape, headstock shape, pickguard shape & screw placement, wood bridge, and pickup of an Errington -- and the E looks a lot like the E in the Errington text on his headstocks -- but it lacks a zero fret and string-through-body. Maybe it's an earlier Errington -- or perhaps an Errington-clone?![]()
You might try contacting Nigel Stockbridge, builder of Erringtons, and seeing if he knows. My guess is it's an older Errington.

Check out the Defil. Previous info I have says these were made in Poland.

Is this VINTAGE ELECTRIC MANDOLIN another Defil?
European made, similar headstock, sliding volume and tone controls... It looks like there is a lot of defilement on that Defil but probably could be cleaned up.

Wow ... I meant to link to the eBay auction, not to the Emando.com page. Sleep deprivation anyone? Thanks for filling in the gaps.

There seem to be quite a few Carvin influences in that one... And maybe a little Tiny Moore (strap eyelet)?
