    does this look like a Maurer to you ?
    the label looks like it was ripped from another instrument and put into this flatback ... what you think ? also look at the string height at 12th fret... unplayable

    To me it looks like someone tried to rip the label off of this mandolin and failed. Also looks like there's a pretty bad bow in the neck, no?

    It may be a Maurer, but it isn't a Larson!

    Hard to tell about the neck but I would say the top is seriously warped. I also have never seen a Larson-made Maurer that looked like that one.

    According to Robert Hartman, Robert Maurer was a maker to some extent before he hired August and Carl. But this thing doesn't match that period at all, meaning late 1890's.
