Is Adam Steffey playing with Mountain Heart AND The Dan Tyminski Band? I assume that after Alison is through with her present tour, Dan and Barry Bales will be back with Union Station.

Seems to me that Mountain Heart has lost it's way a bit. I don't care for the new singer at all, and the last reason to listen, Steffey, has been playing with the Dan Band for some time. The new album, to me, is 'blah' -- practically uninteresting musically.

Unfortunately hoping don't pay the rent so look for Dan to go back to AKUS early next year. Alison's tour with Robert Plant ends around the end of this year and she's planning on hitting the studio with the boy's around March of next year and touring again shortly after that.

Yeah, you're right....a guy has to pay rent and eat.

I guess that everyone hoped that The Bluegrass Album Band would have kept on recording too.

It's a lot of music to be thankful for as well; it's almost as if they recorded a bluegrass time capsule. Whatever happens, those recordings will be around to set the record straight, if you'll pardon the pun.

Well it's not even the 'not bluegrass' thing for me, although that's one part of it. It's the whole 'jam band, endless riff' thing that bores the heck out of me. It's just musically uninteresting for me anymore.

The joy that used to flow all through Mountain Heart's music has all but vanished. Personally, I don't find Josh to be very interesting musically, and the direction the band has taken, while fun to listen to for a few minutes, quickly becomes mind-numbing. I feel the same way about Punch Bros, or John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, or ... Fabulous technical music, but sometimes you just wanna say 'shut up and play something less atonal' -- quit vomiting notes at me.

Glad I got to see them before they went off the deep-end. Most high-energy show I've ever seen.

Wow, that's pretty bad! And to make matters worse, they had a banjo-mandolin, too. Scary

Please tell me it's not so... The NBB are clearly one of the greatest bluegrass bands out there. I love that band.

Funny. Ryan Shupe's band is pretty good, he's very creative, and he's been playing actual bluegrass for years. He's making a decent living playing music. Why his band is brought into a discussion of Mountain Heart is lost on me. "I Play The Banjo" is a spoof that has gained him some notoriety. More power to him.

Again, I don't know what the Rubberband has to do with Mountain Heart.

    Love to all,
    Ken

What Ken said......... 8 or 9 years back, Playing as Salt Licks, Shupe, Craig Minor (banjo) and Dan Bates (Mandolin/Guitar) not only won the Band competition at Teluride, they virtually swept the instrumental contests placing 1,2,or 3 in guitar, banjo, mandolin, and fiddle. Thats 12 wins for 3 guys.
Them boys can pick the bluegrass or anything else they want. Rubber Band don't blow my dress up but they have a wagon load of talent.

I was under-whelmed with the Back In Black cheese and vocals...........and once the guitars got done tinkering around it did get interesting with the mando/fiddle, but then here comes a piano solo?.......and unfortunately the bass just didnt record well, so all that work driving that tune goes un-noticed.....I would rather hear them play grass, but from my experience, all grass all the time gets me in a rut and it feels good to explore a bit.....I enjoy a well developed improv jammy thing once in a while, or playing something very non-grass on acoustic instruments.....Ive been know to play Spinal Tap, Dick Dale, and Grateful Dead all in the same set.....but we mix traditional grass in to keep em guessing
