There is a real interesting article about the band Blue Highway in this months edition of Guitar Player. #They have a new album out called "Through the Window of a Train", it's their 9th album so they have been around a while.

I'm just curious as to what the folks around here think of them.

    Thanks,
    Todd

Thanks Scot, they seem like really cool group of musicians. I hate to ask, but are there any preferred albums in their discography?

I think I own all of their albums and they are all pretty good. Very tight band, musically as they've been together over 15 years. All of the guys contribute on the songwriting front with perhaps the exception of Rob Ickes, the Dobro player. Good BG group!

Their bass player has one of the BEST voices in bluegrass,
    IMHO.

One of the best bands ever. Tight, great harmony and sound as good live as they do in the studio. I'd vote them #1 all around band. Nice people on top of everything else.

I'd agree with everyone else. Some of their songs are already becoming "standards" in bluegrass jams. Great players, songwriters, performers.

I reviewed their most recent CD here. It's a great album and follows a bunch of others. They're recognized as one of the great bands of the contemporary era of bluegrass, combining a sometimes edgy progressivism with a continual respect for the traditions and sounds of bluegrass music. - Ted

My dad had an album so I easily dismissed Blue Highway as too hokey for me... After givin' it a listen I was easily dissuaded from my first impression and found the album (I think its called "Still Climbing Mountains") and subsequently the group remarkable in both their lyrical stylings and musical capabilities. They bring to mind Alison Kraus and Union Station - Alison Kraus, for some strange reason.. Maybe the caliber of their playing or the mood that they set, regardless, they are definately a bunch of extremely talented musicians, the mandolinist is on his game and the dobro player (at least from that album) is truly a sage. They don't mess around!!!
    Ooh, he card reads good.

I think "Marbletown" was written by Mark Knopfler who also wrote the liner notes for the CD. Pretty good commendation.

Some of their newer stuff has that AKUS sound...I prefer their older hard driving stuff.. I've got all their albums but my 3 fav's are "Midnight Storm", "Long Long Road" "Blue Highway" in that order.

I dont own any of their CDs but have heard them and have an mp3 or two I got off of Amazon... Danville Pike is blistering fast and clean. Love the mandolin on that one.

Yup, Wayne Taylor is one of my all times favorites also, Shawn sounds pretty good too, and together they sound great, the whole band sounds great. The real deal in Bluegrass

I think they're great. I saw them at a real small show last superbowl Sunday and they put on a great one.

Nice guys, good songs, great singing, and killer chops. Not sure what else there is...

Shawn can sing them old Stanley Bros songs. Listen to his version of "Love Me Darlin' Just Tonite" on his solo CD.

Marbletown is the only bluegrass CD I own. Strong songwriting, singing, playing and recording quality.

    I've got most of Blue Highway's CD's.
    Great instrumentally and vocally.
Marbletown & Still Climbing Moutains are probably my favorites.

Someday off the Midnight Storm CD is an amazing acapella tune.

These guys are the real deal....put on a great show and are nice guys as well.
