I have a book/cd, fretboard roadmap, track 16 is Gamblers Blues. really cool sound and fun to play. It is the first blues mandolin I have ever heard or played. can someone tell me what else/who else plays this style? I would love to pick up a cd or two and hear more.

    thanks guys,
    Kirk

blue county heart by jorma kaukonen is one of my favvvs who does this song

also, lots of similar songs to the one you mentioned are remakes of ones that were originally recorded by jimmie rodgers. look up his blue yodels. they have legit names and "blue yodel #s." There are 13 of em.

I believe gambler's blues is also called st james infirmary blues.

you are right st james infirmary blues is the same tune. you think itunes has the 2 mentioned artists? thanks so much. also do you know of any books to teach tunes and methods? I kind of changed Gamblers a little bit. I wanted to learn the mandolin because of double stops and tremolo sounds so cool, so now I do it to all the time and this tune really is fun to play with a fast pick and bouncing beat.

    thanks again,

I'm a huge Jimmy Rodgers fan but I don't think he ever recorded with a mandolin player. I could easily be wrong. If you're looking for blues mandolin players you'll want to check out Yank Rachell and Steve James. And Steve James has two instrucional DVD's available at Homespuntapes.com

Rich Delgrosso. Took a couple of workshops with him and I'm working my way through his book. Great stuff.
