I was wondering what is the best way to trim down the pins that connect an abreviated pickguard? I thought about using wire cutters, but figured it would cause it to not fit in...I need to trim around 1/8" off of each pin to help fit it flush with the fretboard...

A hack saw with a good, fine toothed blade, a jewelers saw, a Dremel cut-off wheel, a razor saw with a hardened blade, anything like that that can cut the pins and leave them round.

Thanks John...is there anything that can be used or bought that is relatively inexpensive? I don't have any of those tools...

I suppose, if you have plenty of time on your hands, you could just file them shorter. For that matter, you could cut most of the material off with wire cutters and the rest with a file so that the mashed part is filed away.

It might not be what you want to attack a large cast iron pipe with but for what you want to do this saw should handle it and it is $3.86 at Lowes.

If the pins are in the fingerrest, use your wire cutters and file off the burrs. If they are still in the fingerboard, it will be a lot safer to pull them out to work on them.

A man with an Ellis, a Collings and no tools... there's a serious case of MAS. I hope the kids had shoes this past winter.
