I'm brand new to the mandolin but a seasoned guitar veteran wondering about gatherings for playing and sharing ideas about mandolin in the western ny area. #i'm in springville, about 30 min south of buffalo.

There is a monthly jam at a bowling alley/ bar in Bennington, South of Darien Lake. Sponsored by the Western NY old time music assoc?
I haven't been in a couple of years, but had heard that it was still going strong.

The Celeron American Legion (just outside Jamestown) has a regular Thursday jam session.

I'm from out of town and visit the area a couple times a year. #If it falls on a Thursday, I always make it a point to stop in.

I found the regular core group very good at keeping things moving along and very receptive to "outsiders".

Have you been to the nearby Mayville Bluegrass Festival held every father's day weekend since 2003? #

They consistently book top notch talent (Hillman/Pedersen, Vassar, Rice & Rowan, Trischka, Richard Greene, Rhonda Vincent, Cherryholmes, and on and on) for such a little out of the way festival.
