Hi, I'm new to this forum, and Mandolins but was directed here from a Guild forum.

Found this little Mandolin in a Charity Shop for £25, I didnt think it was gonna be playable but it was pretty enough to just hang on on the wall, Got it home and tuned it up and its not got a bad sound!

The tuners are hopeless, and there is quite a nasty crack on the top, and the seams on the back are coming apart in places but its good enough to strum around the house # #

No label inside to say who it is made by, and when but the tuners are stamped 'Germany'
    here's some pics

There is a folk music shop in town full of old Mandolins, Ukes etc so I might try and find out how much it would be to get the cracks glued, replace tuners etc

These are available weekly on eBay for very little money.

Prob eastern Europe, possibly Romanian. It might not be that easy to get tuners for a slotted headstock. Good luck.

It would be a piece of cake to get that one going again, and make a nice beater.
Or, give it to your friendly local luthier, and let HIM throw it out.

This one looks a lot like the new Romanian offered by Lark of the Morning for $235

My first mandolin was of that type. They used to make these in the German Democratic Republic (shut down since 1990). Might still smell of lignite.
