Little help for the mando rookie-been playing a Breedlove FF for the past few months, lucky enough to find a Collings MT wide nut. Been playing them side by side and have noticed that the FF is relatively easier to play and appears to have more space between the frets for fingering and smaller frets, overall. Neck also seems longer. I compared the specs, and looked at them side by side and the only noticable difference is that the Collings has fatter frets, and appears to have less space between the frets. So, to get to the question, is this typical of A vs F? Love them both and no, not selling either, but the F seems easier to play, and play quickly, as well as to play "clean" chords.

I would think that is more a function of the individual instruments that you have than a general statement about A versus F. Any given A can be as playable as any given F, or the other way round, there is no real trend.

There might be some A or F categorical differences due to the particulars of how you play, you might, for example, hold an F differently than an A for some reason, perhaps to avoid gutting your upper leg with the treble point.

    Enjoy them both.

Check the string height at the nut. My bet is the Collings is higher and that makes it feel harder to note.
