Just saw them up at the Birchmere. They were just unreal. Dan is by far my favorite bluegrass singer, and has been since I heard him in the early days with The Lonesome River Band. He is just spot on and him and Steffey were awesome together. They really enjoy being on stage together, and lots of laughs.

If you have a chance to see them, I would hightly recommend doing so.

Yep! #Saw them at River City in Portland and that was really all they did. #Given the raw talent in that band I was a little dissapointed.

Saw them at River City too... that band has a lot of horsepower. #I enjoyed the show but it felt like they had just threw together some standards that they all knew. #No complaints from me however, I like standards.
Ron Stewart is a monster. #He played fiddle for Rhonda Vincent (Hunter Berry was out) and then picked up the banjo with Dan Tyminski. #Adam Steffey does a great job of talking in between songs... what funny guy!

This band really reminded me of the older version of the Lonesome River Band. They also mentioned that Tim Austin was running the board as well.

I saw them play at RiverCity and they were a lot of fun to see. Steffey was playing his new Daley distressed classic. It looks like a beat up Sam Bush Gibson and sounds great.

I must be getting old and grouchy. Loved the music, hated the banter, thought they seemed disorganized.

I saw them at the Birchmere.

I didn't notice that as much but then again I was trying to feed a bottle to our 4 month old during a lot of the show....
Adam Steffey kinda rambles in between song though... I think it's funny but I could see how it bothers others.

It seems they have all left their bands, as their bands have replacements.
Let's enjoy the music from them as long as they are together, can't wait for the cd.

Has Dan left AKUS? From the AKUS website.......

I'll be seeing them in Prestonsburg, KY, a week from today....looking forward to it!

I believe that I would rather see Dan do his own thing than the gig with AKUS. I'm more of a tradtional/hard drivin' bluegrass fan and lately she had been opening doors to other styles that hasnt been to my liking. But, she does have other fans to please besides me.

9 out of 10 times I prefer standards. Partially because of the familiarity, and mainly because the self-penned or modern tunes seem too sweet or too soft or too clever or too contrived. I'm all about the raw horsepower.

Yes, but as long as they are not 'too standard', like...and..., then there's....

I also love to hear the soloists fly on the stuff they've been playing since childhood. That's why I dig the Bluegrass YYYY series and Wyatt Rice Skeltones.

I dunno, I feel like I've heard Man Of Constant Sorrow enough for one lifetime.

BTW _ I don't believe that Tyminski and Bales have left AKUS, or that Steffey has left Mountain Heart. #I think this is just a side project.

Alan - would agree with you on the Bluegrass 19xx recordings, those are wonderful renditions of the many bluegrass classics with a lot of new energy inserted. I just didn't find this same level of energy or creativity in the performance I saw at River City.

Actually Adam Steffey has left Mountain Heart, from what I understand. Them's some big shoes to fill.

So, the real question....anybody have a recording of the Dan band? I've love to get my hands on a copy....plenty to trade in return.

Maybe he'll go back with Dan and Barry to AKUS (which we'll need to change to AKUSfJD&AS).
