Anyone got a cool arrangement for The Star of the County Down? My son and daughter want me to accompany them on it at a school talent show. Son on tin-whistle (lead), daughter on keyboards (need harmony and left-hand stuff), and me mucking along on bouzouki (lead, harmony, bass, rhythm, percussion, ologons).

There's a version for mandolin and guitar at mandozine you might check out.

You might try Folk Traditions Store. http://www.folktraditionsstore.com/bemiss.htm #On their website, they have a piano arrangement (with guitar chords) of Star of the County Down for $4.00.

Those arrangements are in Am, assuming your son has a standard D whistle, I'd suggest playing it in Em. Here's a guitar arrangement

And here's a whistle (you have to scroll down the page):

Check Van Morrison's versions. He's done several.

I found a couple of variations...
Charles Whitmer - Autoharp Legacy - cool mando solo with autoharp, whistle etc.
El McMeen - Ramble to Cashel - Acoustic Guitar - a beautiful arrangement
Bela Fleck - Flight of the Cosmic Hippo - a classic.

It lays really nicely on a D whistle in A minor, and it's nice to have the lower 5th as well as the flat 7th, which you don't have in Em:

Great tune! It's on our Reiner Family Band LIVE! CD, including a piano break, in Am. Orderable at our website, or PM me and I'll send you an MP3.

    Best,
