    Greetings, friends.

After signing over my Canzona (per Carlo Aonzo) to the venerable --and VERY reputable-- Joachim Trekel Publishing House of Hamburg last May, I had not seen the work listed yet on the company's website, nor had I received the customary complimentary copies until last weekend. So, with more caution than valor, I wrote to Mr. Trekel earlier this week, inquiring whatever might have happened.

I was delighted --but, of course, not at all suprised, knowing what an honorable businessman Mr. Trekel is-- to get an e-mail response, presto, prestissimo today, explaining the delay as one caused by a multitude of other projects that were pressingly deadlined against the fixed dates of various festivals. I have no reason to doubt, or to begrudge such business realities.

Mr. Trekel assured me that the Canzona will be coming out VERY shortly, indeed this very month.

I most highly recommend any opportunity you might ever get to actually hear Carlo himself (and guitarist partner) actually perform this piece. They are an absolute KNOCK-OUT!

As for the piece itself, I will leave that for others to judge. All I will say is that I am pleased with the outcome. Finally, I will also add that this piece is of moderate difficulty-level, as it was written to showcase Carlo's finesse more than the sheer virtuosity of his playing; in other words, this is a piece any reasonably skilled mandolinist can handle, and perform to good effect.

    Cheers,

    Victor

    Hi Victor,

Congrats again with your Canzona! It's good to hear that it now will be available very soon.

Thank you, my friend! I look forward to seeing this piece in print.

You will also surely be glad to hear —if you don't already know— that I have been in contact with the gracious Ms. Flensborg, musing on some possibilities for my next mando-project.

But first, of course, the final editorial work on Antwerp Harbor. Joe is waiting...

    Cheers,

    Victor

Great news, Victor! Seems like eventualy you will get around to composing something for all the excellent players out there. There are still a few left, of course. And when you reach all of them, you can start all over again.

That #list of selected players may be growing, Victor. #Might I suggest "Garber's Gavotte" #or perhaps "Martin's Mazurka", a "Mass in E(ugene) Major"? #That ought to keep one busy....

Congratulations on the publication. #Many of us have been pacing the obstetrics hall waiting along with Hubert on his book, and now likewise with you on this piece. #Thank you for sharing the good news and please keep us further informed.

It's a boy! No, wait... it's a girl— grammatically, at least, in Italian.

The fact is, dear friends, that my Canzona (per Carlo Aonzo) is now officially published and in circulation; its serial number on Trekel's catalogue is T 6261. I trust that my enthusiasm does not come across as crass self-promotion. This piece was too much a labor of love for that...

That said, I hope this piece is played far and wide. One of Carlo's star students has been planning to perform it in his native Israel; others have contacted me with similar intentions. I am delighted to turn all such inquiries over to the venerable Trekel Verlag.

The final product, needless to say, is exemplary, and typical of the top-notch presentation we are accustomed to from this noble venture. It includes, three-in-one, the full score, plus the two, separate parts. (Page-turns are thus made unproblematic.)

I close my day with a BIG smile on my face...

    Cheers,

    Victor

No, never!!! I know that we all like hearing about new mandolin publications. Promote away, and I will eventually do the same!

    Victor... I echo Neil's sentiments.

Do we have to order thru Trekel or must we get our local stores to carry it? Do you have some copies to sell?

    Thank you, all.

Jim, I would suggest ordering this score --IF one is thus inclined, that is-- through Trekel, in the usual manner. Getting U.S.-based representation for Trekel is, well... Trekel's business; I would recommend it to him, but I don't have any way of making it happen. But buying directly from Trekel is unproblematic, as the staff speaks English, the company takes credit cards, etc. No problem!

As per common contractual terms, the composer gets just a couple of copies gratis: one, of course, I will autograph and hand to Carlo, for whom the piece was written, after all; one I will keep for myself. There is nothing for me to sell, really...

I hasten to add that Trekel has a truly ENORMOUS selection of mandolin music, arguably the best and greatest in the world. In other words, mandolinists may choose to get a handful of their wish-list scores in one, single purchase, thereby of course minimizing shipping costs. In the larger scheme of Trekel-things, my Canzona is just another "grain of rice in China", so to speak.

    Cheers,

    Victor

Don't like this dictum. What about "That's one small step for (a) man, one giant leap for man(dolin)kind". :-)

No, really, every new piece written for our beloved instrument is much more worth than a "grain of rice in China"!

    Great news!
