A couple of announcements to make regarding some new moderators.

I asked Ted Eschliman to take over for me for awhile as the main moderator of this forum, and this occurred about two weeks ago. Ted has added some new moderators to the mix who are committed to lending their support in maintaining the long-term health and viability of this community.

It's my goal that this board ultimately provide more of its own moderation and find a prescription that allows it to continue to flourish. I ask that you provide your support and cooperation to Ted and the new moderators, as they have mine 100%.

The membership here grows daily, and keeping this a place that's absent from so much of the intimidating and nasty behavior that rules web forums these days is something we need to buy into as a community.

The new moderators are Jamie Stanek, Mike Edgerton and Charlie Jones along with Ted in their new responsibilities. The changes will be reflected on the board in the near future.

As owner of this forum I'm still actively involved in technical issues, approving memberships and other behind-the-scenes duties so I'm still around, just not as visible, but will be involved in moderation if asked by Ted or the others, and only then. Thanks for your support, everyone, and welcome to our new moderators!

Great Scott! (ha ha ha) What can we do to help? (rhetorical)

I recently decided to "renew" my membership here, by changing my handle over to just plain ol' me to better go along with the idea of this place as a "face card up" forum. Scott was a great help, and took care of it all behind the scenes (thanks again).

Along with the handle-change, I took a personal pledge to be more on-topic, mandolin-related, and to be more supportive overall.

I'm fallible, and perhaps I'll fall short my goal from time to time, but ... count me as a supporter of Sheriff Ted, and his new posse of deputies.

    - MG

100% support for Scott's delegating some of the work to other capable hands.
100% support for those delegates as well.

Thank you Scott for establishing this mando-oasis and developing a vibrant community of people who share our common interest. Thanks also to Ted, Jamie, Mike, and Charlie for volunteering to continue maintaining and developing the site.

I think this is the key. I know I'm taking it to heart, having recently made a comment that may have been a fair one, but wasn't something that needed to be posted publically. If I really felt I had to say it, I could have done it in a private msg.

I think most moderators would prefer not to have to intervene. And when they do, there is often resentment because of it. To have a truly civil forum here will require self-discipline on the part of the members. Does this mean censorship? Maybe, but it's self-censorship, which is something most of us exercise every day, with our family, friends, co-workers etc.

Sorry for not mentioning that. Dan is getting a well deserved break here too. He's the top technical IT guy for a large European hedge fund and they like him keeping their servers happy. He has enough on his plate.

Welcome to the new mods! I'm not familiar with Charlie but Mike and Jamie have been already serving as unofficial mods just by their very good-natured approaches.

Ditto all that's been said. Scott, I think - for what it's worth - the moderators chosen to help out are well-qualified individuals and have a good feel for the 'pulse' of this site.

Continued success to you and Mandolin Cafe', and I welcome the oversight of Ted, Jamie, Charlie and Mike.

Welcome to all the new moderators.

I administer four enthusiast forums and know very well how much effort goes into keeping a forum civil and on-track, and how thankless the job is for all the volunteers.

Uh oh. I think Mike's appointment spells the end of Gibson bashing on this site. I guess I'll have to start thinking of worthwhile things to contribute now.

    biorkman,
My last post on your recently ... ummm ... "moderated" thread is a good example of the type of stuff I'd rather NOT post. So, this makes a good opportunity for me to say, "Sorry I said that". Your thread wasn't all that bad, you know (and you do know that).

THANKS TO SCOTT, OUR NEW MODERATORS, AND ALL MEMBERS WHO WILL CONTINUE TO KEEP THIS A GREAT WAY TO DISCUSS OUR MUSICAL PASSION IN A CIVIL WAY. I APPRECIATE THE FACT THAT WHILE WE ALLOW OURSELVES A LITTLE BIT OF EXCITEMENT WE DON'T GET TOO CARRIED AWAY.
    THANKS TO ALL
