Buddy Hackett was one of my favorite comedians. He could get me laughing just looking into the camera. Even when his jokes were mediocre his delivery was classic.

Anyway, I was recently shown an old Buddy Hackett video, and one of the jokes is particularly appropriate here.

So this guy comes up to me and says:

"Can I borrow $3000. I really need it man, my mother, she is very ill, she needs an operation. Insurance will come up short and I need the money. Can you help me?"

Now I know this guy, and he has always had uncontrollable MAS. I know sure as anything he is going to put the money on a custom mandolin. So I tell him:

"No man, your just going to put that money on a custom mandolin. Your going to call up Wiens or someone and get a two pointer or something made for you."

    He replied:

"No, honestly. Its my Mom, she's very ill. I mean it. Besides, I already have the money for the mandolin set aside."

    JeffD - Very good.

I have to agree with you on ol' Buddy. He had to have been one of the funniest men ever - before, or since. He didn't need props or slap-stick, or even foul language - not that he was adverse to burning the air. He could tell a really stupid, simple joke, that other comedians would totally bomb on, and he'd have an audience - including me - rolling on the floor. Nice memory. Thanks.

Maybe he could have figured out how to cure MAS, he figured out how to cure a cold.
Said he rolled naked in the morning dew 'til his cold turned into pneumonia...for which there is a cure.

I spent the weekend looking at all the YouTube Buddy Hackett videos, in the hopes of mandofying another joke.

    I have been cracking up!
