Anybody know of a freeware MIDI file player where you can change tempo that is easy to use?

Windows Media Player has a slide bar on it that lets you slow down and speed up midis or any other file type for that matter.

I sure don't see anything on my version other than the volume slider. Where is that???

I don't know about a slide bar, but if you right click on the play button it will give you a "slow playback" option

It depends on the version of WMP. Version 9 has a pull down, slow down option, but only one slow down speed. Version 10 has the slider. I use TablEdit for Midi's, Transcribe! for sound files like MP3's.

Hey, Pete, try Melody Assistant. It does a LOT more than what you want, but it's free and fairly easy to use.

Here is a screen shot of Windows Media Player with the speed setting slide bar open. The blue arrows let you scroll through various settings such as a graphic equalizer, speed control, WOW effects, etc.
You can slow songs down up to 50% or speed them up to 200%.
