Has anyone played both the A & B models of R. L. Givens' mandolins? Could you describe the difference? The As, I understand, are quite pricey, while the Bs are more modest. Is there a good reason for the difference?
Thank you very much.

I haven't seen a B model for sale or anywhere else yet, you know where one is I'd love to have a look! Also...ya might wanna address your question to Greg Boyd, you'll find a link to his store on the home page, right side, midway down. #He carries the torch for the Givens brand of mandolins. I love mine as do many others here. Mines is an A5.

There is a B model for sale at the Trading Musician in Seattle. Have always heard about the A model mandolins and just wondered whether there was a vast difference in tone between the 2 models. Has anyone played a B?
Thanks.
There are photos of this instrument here.
Looks like a flat back to me.

I love seeing so many photos this is a great service!
I would say that there is a vast difference in sound even tho I haven't heard it. The carved top and back will produce a more powerful sound. Listen to the ones at Greg Boyd's via the sound clips and go play that one too! Good Luck!
