Thread: Slots on a new nut.how deep?

    making a new nut on my mando,and I need to know the distance from bottom of slot to top of fret. rule of thumb for guitar is ,height of fret plus .030". will this work for mando?

    The method outlined in frets.com works for mandolin, banjo, guitar, whatever.

    I've found the guidelines given by Mr. Ford to be a bit conservative wrt string height ... on the A & E courses especially.
    But that's just my preference and my mandolin. Remember ... you can always cut deeper, but you can't cut shallower.
