Clarence white

I want to get a Clarence White CD. Which would be the best, and does it have mandolin on it, preferably Roland? I notice that some of the CD's have songs that are less than 2 minutes, which I assume means just guitar.

Hey Bob...

I would highly recommend Appalachian Swing. It has Clarence and Roland on mandolin with many traditional songs. If you just want a cd of Clarence then you can get his 33 Acoustic Guitar Instrumentals but as you mentioned they are short versions with just his flatpicking.

You can find these cds pretty much anywhere but I would like to recommend that you buy them straight from Rland's website. He is a great guy and the price he sells things for is very reasonable.

I just noticed that Roland also has listed a new cd of Clarence's flatpicking and I went to the below link where you can listen to samples.

It has 19 songs on it and most of them have Roland's mandolin accompanying the guitar.

I wish that the Kentucky Colonels album Live in Sweden was available on CD. Maybe I'll have to get one of those USB Turntables and go to town on all of my dad'd old albums.

Livin' In The Past Live. It is the live Appilachian swing. It also hsa scotty stoneman who was one of the craziest fddles ever.

Appilachian Swing is a album that bring Roland and Calrence to pure pefection. I am a big fan of both and feel this is a album that equals Pet Sounds and Sargent Peppers in bringing a new sound to old hears.

ASwing is good but that live in Sweden made towards the end of his life really showcases how far he had progressed on the acoustic guitar after mastering the electric guitar. All of his recorded stuff is great.

A little distortion on the guitar to listen "through", but a very entertaining album, IMO.
Listening to Scotty on that album is like watching a "death defying" circus act or something. You know he can't do what he's doing, but there he is doing it anyway!
