Now I know I'm not the only one who is buying their wife (or someone) a bass guitar (or some instrument) for Xmas to start a family band, and satisfy a little IAS (instrument aquisition syndrome).
Who's getting what?

I desperately want to, but my wife really has no interest in playing. I have to wait until my daughters (one's 20 months, the other is still in utero) get a bit older and then push them into being my rhythm section.

I got a bowlback mandolin last year so I am set for a while.

funny.... Sort of funny....Sort of funny also
I got my wife a banjo about 5 years ago, problem is she just hasn't caught the bug badly enough to stick with it. My son, on the other hand, as GAS badly and rarely stops playing. Now if he were just interested in something other than heavy metal
We're putting enough money between grandparents, us, aunts/uncles etc for him to buy an acoustic guitar for xmas though. . . . . it's his request so there's still some hope.

My daughter is 11 she's played iano for 7 years and is quite good. I convinced her to take up "violin" at school for the orchestra and am trying to sneak in fiddle tunes.
my wife (a trumpet player) has finally agreed to learn the bass so we can play together...we'll see but I'm hopeful

I've finally given in. I bought myself a cheap fiddle and I'm going to learn to play classical. I'm looking forward to playing some music with my family that they are interested in. I've secretly been getting lessons from my nine year old and will likely surprise my wife some time soon. It's been fun for both of us, and it's only costing me a buck a lesson![]()
And now for today's weather....sunny, with a chance of legs

Greg, along with that acoustic guitar, get your son a copy of Preston Reed's "Metal", and maybe show him that tasty video on YouTube of Sierra Hull playing Roanoke on guitar. That oughta do it. But watch out! You'll have to keep up!
cheers, and Merry Christmas!

Not much this year.....:-)
A couple of years back I bought my wife a gorgeous Taylor guitar and low and behold if I didn't soon get my Gibson F-9.....:-)

Well - should receive my new F from Geoff at iiimandolin sometime in March. My wife doesn't play but is very supportive - she has asked that I take her on a cruise in lieu a of a "gift". I don't see much downside to this !Our daughter will be 11 weeks old on Christmas day - her nursery already sports a Yamaha acoustic, a fretless acoustic bass and several hand drums. My wife thought the 88 key Roland was "tacky" in the nursery- Guess I shouldn't push it TOO far - for now.

I gotta say it was close this year. In an attempt to further pique my daughter's musical interest and tastes I almost got her a set of conga drums but I thought bettter of it. The first few months on the violin were tough enough.
