Why am I thinking there was another CD put out that used the same Loar mandolin and maybe a D-45 on every track, but used different musicians to compare how the same instrument sounded different in different artists' hands.

Did I dream this, does this exist outside of the Tone Poem genre, or what ?

Are you thinking of Tone Poets? You can listen here at Amazon. Different artists same Loar (Crusher) and OM-45. Order it from the Dawg here.

Edit: This really puts the "Sound comes from the player more than the instrument" debate to rest for me. So many different styles an nuances on the same instruments. A great record!

Bingo ! That's it. I think I'm looking at a self-placed stuffing stocker, if I can find it in Kansas City, MO somewhere at this late date.

    Thanks,

That’s one of my all time favorite albums (CD's). I love both the solo pieces and the duets.
