    i am a beginner on the mandolin wanted to learn to play one.i play banjo and guitar.so i picked a mandolin up off ebay,should be here tomorrow.it is a new york pro a style.

    are the new york pro's anygood or will i be upgrading pretty quickly after learning a few tunes.has anyone tried these out?

    I'm guessing you'll be upgrading, although I've never played one of the New York Pro mandolins. But, a lot of us started out by picking up a cheapie, and then moving on from there. Probably the first of many "upgrades." What kind of guitar/banjo (s) do you have? Welcome aboard,have fun, and if the NY mando isn't all that great, don't give up...but you probably already know that....

    thanks,i have an older kay banjo which plays pretty good.i have a indianna acoustic guitar,an older gibson acoustic,a harmony acoustic,a fiddle have no idea who makes it lol.and a fender electric guitar.and plan on buying another (better) banjo around income tax time.

    i also like collecting instruments as well as playing them

    Welcome to the Family!!! I have played New York Pro's before...and its the standard start-out mando. My first mando was only 40$. Get ready for an upgrade and a full blown case of MAS.

    These seem to be a good buy for about $100 without case.
    If you love to play the mando you will not feel bad when you upgrade to a better intrument.
    In general, instruments in the $100 price range do not have much resonance.
