    Hi Folks,
I meant to let you all know much earlier (but forgot) that you can now keep up to date with whats happening in our wee corner of Scotland by looking at our Newsletters, on our web. It's a quarterly newsletter issued to members and then put on pdf at a later stage.

A few interesting articles and music (all sytles)... I particularly like Nigel Gatherers piece on "what is Celtic Music", a question that's come up on the cafe a few times... so I asked him to tell us (if anyone has a clue... it's Nigel).

Also a wee series on mandolin history written by myself, (probably a lot of facts wrong!), with a bit of help from Paul Sparks and the kind permission of Alex Timmermann allowing me to use his embergher pics (the #Embergher Web is really an outstanding piece of work, don't you think? well done Alex!... that together with Ralf and Barrie's Embergher Book book really gives a full and comprehensive history)

Next issue will have an article on buying bowlbacks I hope you enjoy!

    Best wishes to you all.

Ian, this newsletter is great. I am impressed that the November issue has a kids mando and folk instrument orchestra on the cover. Keep up the good work to get the youngsters interested in the traditional instruments. In the US the youngsters all seem to want to play fretted instruments in a rock band using a bass or guitar.

You say you are in a "wee corner of Scotland", does that mean that your group is not in the area of Glasgow or Edenbough? Lanarkshire seems to be in the lowlands which is not exactly rural.

    Hi JK245
The photo on the front cover is "MANGO" our Youth mandolin and guitar orchestra which we formed about a year ago... which is great because it gives us a good "feed through" to Da Capo Alba our adult orchestra. We do alot of work with kids and have now provided mandolin workshops to over 7000 Primary school kids, and thats how we recruit the young people for our weekly mandolin classes of which we have about 20 with 150 participants. it's great fun!(but hard work, but then hobbies always are.)

I always say "a wee corner of Scotland" but actually Lanarkshire ( or Actual South lanarkshire ) covers quite a large area,it's about 10 miles from Glasgow and about 30 miles to Edinburgh.. so we are kind off in the middle.
    Best wishes
    Ian
