Okay, I had a temporary mental melt-down. I was actually considering giving up the mandolin thing (for some odd reasons) and I put my one and only instrument in the classifieds.

Well I came to my senses pretty quickly and the ad is now deleated.

I had a sound sample in my ad, and now I'm a bit curious about what you all thought about it (the sound, the playing). I recorded it with my Zoom H2 handy redorder in #the kithchen and it's just me noodlin´around a basic blues chord progression, totally improvised; not cohesive and certainly not perfect... but it gives you an idea of my playing style.

    So what do you think?

Here's the link to the sound sample...

To my ear, that's a good sounding mando.

If I played half that well, I would never think about selling any of my mandolins. Nice!

Thanks guys for your encouragment! I appreciate it a lot.

I can sometimes be very hard on myself, diminishing my own skills. This can sometimes be good, when it propels me to reach for higher levels. But sometimes it's just out of proportion and nothing but negative...

So again, thanks! Your kind words help me to balance my own negativity.

Sounds real good to me. There is no getting around the fact that people are usually their own worse critic.

Where to start? I would dearly love to have a mandolin with that sweet tone.

I also love that fluid improvising. Sounds like a celebration to me. How often do you play in jams?
Maybe that kind of feedback would be fun.

Only in the sense that it doesn't ceaslessly "impel" the listener forward to the last note -- but EXCELLENT noodling nonetheless! If yours were the standard by which one should quit, I ain't gonna' make it!

Sounds very good to me, mando and player. It's a lot harder to unsell than it is to keep.

Glad you came to your senses. The Pomeroy sounds great, and it sounds like you know your way around a fingerboard pretty well.

    Never quit.

I can't recall accessing the sound clip. I'd like to hear it though.

Can you send it or post it again somehow?

Excellent! That's one good mandolin player right there! Just wait until you hear this guy sing, that's when he really starts to shine, believe me.

Glad you kept the Pomeroy. And yes, you should attend jams more often!

Oggy you sound great, I'd be proud to jam with you except there's a little thing called the Atlantic Ocean. Put more stuff on Myspace. I've found that sometimes I get the same feelings about my abilities. I just try to keep reminding myself that life and playing music are nothing but a journey of learning. And if that doesn't work I buy a new mandolin.
