I gave my wife a Flatiron 1N about 15 years ago.. and it has seen very little play time over that period. The other day, I got it out and find that the action is fairly high around mid-ship...

    - There is no truss rod
    - I replaced the strings 5-6 years ago with J74's.. when I went looking for the truss rod, I notice a sticker inside requesting 'light strings' (whoops)
    - I did have the tension down on the strings for a good portion of the last 5 years, but...

Given all that, are there any ideas on what I need to do to get the action/neck back to a happy place.. so that when I put on the new (LIGHT) strings.. it's more even across the full scale? I want to get this tuned up for my 10 year old to play...

    Thanks-- Jeff

Maybe this would be more involved and more expensive than you would like, but remove the fingerboard, install reinforcement of your choice, and reinstall the fingerboard. Serious finish touch up will be required. It should end up better than new and you can use J 75s if you like.
