I have been reading up on Mando's with wider nut widths, radiused fingerboards and with pickup's. I've been at it for about two months now, and, I have finally settled on a Quartz FF that comes with a pickup, in natural.

I am wondering if anyone here ownes an FF and if they can give me a review/update on the Mando, items like if she's had any issues since purchase, what style of tunes you pick, the volume with a heavy hand rhythm and if you think she's a keeper...thanks, dy.

I've had one for just over a week, no pickup and in the sunburst. I've been picking a variety of stuff: Monroe, classical, jazz...it handles them all pretty well. Has nice volume and there's been no issues so far and if I didn't have a BRW on order I'd say the FF would be a keeper.

I loved my Breedlove Spirit. The feel was awesome, although I like the tone of my Fern better. There's nothing wrong with the Breedlove tone. I just wanted somethign a little smokier. I would recommend Breedlove to anyone.

Before the FF I never played a Breedlove that I liked at all. But they really revamped their tone with the FF, I think it has plenty of bite when needed, even a bit of growl but overall the tone is "cleaner" than a Gibson...for lack of a better description. The fit & finish is flawless and the black tuner knobs are just plain cool.

So is anyone playing one of these? Any reviews? I played one at the local GC the other day and was pretty impressed. I'd never cared for Breedlove mandolins much until I got to play this one. It certainly surprised me. It doesn't sound like a Gibby MM or a varnished Collings, but it sounds darn good, especially for the $$. Once my mando fund recovers I may pick up one of these as my ff hole instrument.

I've played the one at Fiddler's Green in Memphis (soon to be Austin) several times and was very impressed. I also heard it in the hands of a VERY capable player one time and was just floored. Like others have mentioned it has a "prettier" tone than a traditional F5, but I cant see it being limited to any certain styles. It also plays like a dream, as do all Breedloves.

Good safe bet if you get one used. Solid resale value. Excellent mandolin in the $1000-1350 range. I enjoyed one for a time.
