HERE ARE SOME PICTURES OF THE TUNE-O-MATIC BRIDGES I MADE
FOR A PAIR OF SOLIDBODIES I AM BUILDING WITH MY SON .

THE IDEA HERE IS TO BUILD A MANDOLIN BASED ON THE LES PAUL
DESIGN . THE BRIDGE AND STOP TAILPIECE ARE MADE FROM
SOLID STAINLESS STEEL . THIS WAY I CAN POLISH THE PARTS
BEFORE ASSEMBLEY AND THEY LOOK LIKE FACTORY PARTS .

THE MANDOLINS WILL HAVE FLAME MAPLE TOPS AND MAHOGANY BODIES .
ONE WILL HAVE BLACK BINDING AND THE OTHER ON WILL BE CREAM .
THE NECKS WILL BE FLAME MAPLE ALSO WITH EBONY RADIUS FINGERBOARDS .

THESE WILL HAVE A HUMBUCKER IN THE BRIDGE POSITION AND A
CHARLIE CHRISTIAN NEAR THE NECK .

THE BODIES WILL BE CORED OUT TO KEEP THE WEIGHT DOWN .

Looks sweet, but if you're asking, I'd recommend going with a 5 string format and maybe even "long scale" (tuned G to B, low to high, an octave below standard mandolin). Then you'll have a really versatile mandolin electric instrument.

3rd pickup option in the bridge, drilling 4 holes for the piezo pickup
signal wires down thru the bridge base.
    RMC pickups.com
    Graph Tech makes another,
pitch to MIDI needs individual string signals.

Mechanics Q: the 2 pieces of the bridge to make the 4 spaces for the bridge pieces going to be brazed or silver-soldered
together, so they don't move against each other?

Tunamatic style bridges are the only way to go on instruments of this type...

On my Stevens "Paul Glasse" model 5 string, I asked Mike to use ebony on the part the string travels over on the E and A strings, so as to mellow the tone down a bit. It seems to work so I thought I'd pass the idea on...

Most electric mandolins sound too bright or trebly, probably due to pickup location on such a small body. It's all taste, of course, but that bridge pickup can get very bright sounding...still cool to have in conjunction with the neck pickup for a sort of 335 type sound..

Good luck and what a great project!
