    Hello everyone,

I posted a query in the "equipment" forum and someone suggested that I ask the same question here also.

I'm having a 'zouk built by a local luthier and I want to find a good hard-shell, fitted case for it. The dimensions of the 'zouk are not that exotic but the case should be a tight fit, all the same. I have a Calton case for my Foley and, while the case is extremely sturdy (and heavy) I don't want to spend that much money or get a separated shoulder from hauling this yoke around:-]. My Flatiron is housed in an old Harptone case, which is ideal, but the only Harptones I see advertized on the 'net are cheap chipboard ones. Can anyone help me find a good (preferably fibreglass) case for around $200-$300 US??

    Thanks a million,

    Paul

In my experience, VERY few makers make "fibreglass" cases for OMs/zouks, other than a couple of banjo-case makers, Calton and whoever makes cases for Sobell (is that Hiscox? #They make the cases for Lowden guitars, which I like a lot!). #Almost all of the cases I've seen have been wooden HSC, not chipboard. #(You can of course get a chipboard case, but I can't for the life of me see why you would want one. #If I were going for the "light" route, I'd get a good gigbag rather than a chipboard case.)

You might want to check out this one:

It's an ABS case, which (in my experience) isn't the same thing as "fiberglass."

    Ed,
Thanks for the tips. "Gigbag" has been stricken from my vocabulary ever since the shoulder strap came loose on a bag containing my '69 Martin. The cracks were repaired but my heart's still broken. I will suss out the Gator cases. Thank you again for your time and trouble.

    All the best,
    Paul

Paul -- I agree with you about gigbags. I won't carry an acoustic instrument in one unless I simply CAN'T find a HSC to fit it. Even then, I'm always crossing my fingers.

You don't want a TKL case? All the builders I speak to seem to use them so you might be able to get one from them in stock. I'm not sure but it is worth a phone call to them.

I have a Datt case for my OM, made somewhere in BC. I love it, but it is neither small nor light.
