I haven't. Have you got a source for this news? Taylor is usually pretty good at building up some fervor before a product release. I haven't seen any pre-release information in any of their mailings.

Nothing in the latest issue of Wood & Steel (Taylor owners' newsletter). Wouldn't put it past them to spring something on us, though.

Really, didn't see anything on their website.

They built up the release of the T-5 for many months before it came out. They generally pre-market everything they do. It wouldn't surprise me if they entered the mandolin market but I'd be surprised if they had a product that was anywhere near ready to come out and they hadn't mentioned it in Wood & Steel or on the website. I wonder if someone mistook the name Mark Taylor for Bob Taylor.
With that said I imagine Taylor would be a force if they did enter the mandolin fray.

I bet Taylor would make the neck wider on their mandolins. I hear guitar players asking for that from time to time. Taylor does make their classical guitars with a narrow neck to appeal to “guitar” players, it would be interesting to see their modifications to a mandolin.
I like their other mandolins with the tear drop sound hole. I don't feel the stigmatas of a style of music that I feel I need to play. You know what I mean; the F-5 says "Bluegrass," the A says "Celtic," and the flattop says "Folk." The Taylor just says: "Mandolin."
Disclaimer: I don't play one nor do I have affiliations with the Taylor company...
Without Love in the Dream it will never come true.
Huh? What mandolins?Originally Posted by

Your thinking about Tacoma there.

Well if its true I hope they fare better than Larrivee did with their mandos, I'm not sure but I think they sank like a lead ballon
Sorry, I thought that I had seen a picture of a prototype here from one of the instrument shows. Maybe "Mandohack" can weigh-in.

I have wondered for a while whether Taylor would enter the mando fray, but thus far I have not seen any indication that they intend to do so. The initial investment required for them to start churning out mandos would be significant, and they may not feel that there is enough of a market to justify the expense.
I would've thought the more logical expansion (esp. given their location) would've been into ukuleles. It would probably expand their market in Japan. I would bet every die-hard Taylor guitar fan would buy at least one. And even if it was a fraction of that, that's still a lot of ukes. Not so sure all those folks would necessarily buy a mandolin...
OTOH what happened to Larrivee ukes?
What's the deal with the Larrivee mandolins? I've never seen one in a store or for sale online anywhere? I have a Larrivee guitar and love it, and would love to have a Larrivee mandolin as well, but they don't seem to want to sell them very bad.Originally Posted by (mario515 @ Aug. 21 2007, 16:17)

I emailed Taylor's PR department, and here's the response:
Hi Daniel,
Thank you for contacting Taylor. We appreciate your e-mail.
We are grateful for your support! We hope your 314 provides you with a
lifetime of enjoyment. Currently, there are no plans for a Taylor
mandolin -- although we never say never! We've always recognized that
music holds a special place in people's lives, so Bob Taylor and the
rest of the staff strive to run the company accordingly. Please don't
hesitate to give us a call at 800-943-6782 should you ever have any
future questions.
Take care,
Taylor Guitars
I guess that we won't be seeing a Taylor mandolin anytime soon.
Dan
Taylor apparently will be coming out with solidbody electric guitars in the near future, according to a snippet from their Taylor Insider newsletter posted at the UMGF.
Gawd, this is as bad as camera corporation secrecy! Let the speculataion begin! #
Note that in this case "Insider" means anyone who signs up for the newsletter!
My guess is that a Taylor mandolin would be similar to a Docy. As long as were speculating and starting rumors this seems as good as any.
