No. Soprano ukes use reentrant tuning. Your string pitches will be in discontinuous octaves. You can't put enough steak sauce on salmon to make it taste like sirlion either. I suggest you play the ukulele like a ukulele.
Hey, do what you like with it. Tho I would agree that swapping out the strings would not work. Get yourself some fishing line of various gauges and have fun experimenting with tunings. Worse come to worse you could take up fishing.

Risa makes a set of strings just for this purpose.
I currently have classic (nylon) guitar strings on the soprano uke.
.71mm for the E
.76mm for the A
.89mm for the D
1.09mm for the G
I have seen where fishing line is being used for some of the strings, but I have not tried that yet.
I respect the traditionalist, I just don't happen to be one of them

I use .022,a soprano outer string,.. for the other 3,
they are Martin baritone uke .
.034, .035 ..2 are wound.
But light top glued on bridge, may like FCGD,
a lower tension but same intervals.
tenor guitars [unless DGBE] ,standard tuned like tenor banjos are CGDA, as are mandolas..
and violas..

As said above, string sets are available. I'm not sure you'd get the kind of sound out of it that you'd like, but let us know how it works out. The interesting thing with a soprano is that reentrant tuning. I've had a soprano tuned with a low G, and found it to be very dull, where otherwise it was pretty sweet with a high G. I do however like a low G on a tenor. Soprano and concert seem to do best with reentrant. Just an opinion.
Of course he can do what he likes with it.Originally Posted by (jgarber @ Sep. 06 2007, 07:59)
I suggested he play it like a uke.
